Fireweed & Petunnias in BloomThe Skyscraper Trading Post is named for the two historic log buildings located in downtown Whitehorse, Yukon. The trading post was located in the smaller two-storey building that sits in front of the four-storey log structure wherein each floor is occupied as an as a separate apartment

Yukon Totem Carverpioneer Martin Berrigan built both buildings in the 1940’s. During the construction of the Alaska Highway rental accommodation in Whitehorse was at a premium. Martin, in his 70’s thought that the rental of the quasi apartments were a great idea to provide him with some income during his retirement years.

The larger skyscraper building was initially built as a three-story structure. In later years, to maintain the integrity of the structure, a cement foundation was poured underneath the building, at which time the owner decided to also add another street level apartment.

In January 2000 by order of council, the buildings were officially designated as a Municipal Historic Site. They are one of the most photographed attractions in the Yukon Territory.

The SKYSCRAPER TRADING POST is owned and operated by Gus Karpes and Irene Pugh. For the past three years it has operated as a web facility only.
